Sights and Sounds of Han Chiang High School, Penang on Monday, 29th April 2013

We were invited to the Birthday Celebration of Tai Tay Yah at Lim Lean Teng Hall in Han Chiang High School on Monday, 29th April, the day of the political ceramah of Pakatan Rakyat/DAP/PKR/PAS.  You can imagine our reaction – all roads would be leading to Han Chiang High School on that evening, so to speak!

Mindful of the road blocks and the traffic jam, we went early, arriving at 6.50 p.m. and we were allowed to enter the grounds to park inside.

The grounds of Han Chiang High School decidedly had a festive air about it:   people wearing UBAH hats which were distributed to supporters.  I will attempt to share with you the photos I have taken before the event and as the evening progressed, I just could not believe the multitude of supporters who came to hear the political speeches.

As the evening progressed, the crowd just came without stopping.  The following photographers were taken by my friend, Michael Chuan and I shared them from his Facebook.  Thank you Michael.

I am going to leave you with this quaint photo I took of 3 dinner guests in Lim Lean Teng Hall.

Sian Chye Tong, Hye Keat Estate, Air Itam, Penang

The main deity in Sian Chye Tong is Sian Chye Phor Sat (Kumara Sudhana Bodhisattva) popularly known as “Baby God”.  In Penang, all temples celebrate Chinese New Year by switching on their lights to usher in the new year and Sian Chye Tong is no exception.  To welcome the Year of the Snake, they have installed approximately 500 red lanterns together with LED lighting and these will be switched on daily from 7.30 p.m. to 12 midnight.

It is a glorious sight to behold for devotees visiting the temple to seek the blessing of Sian Chye Phor Sat during the new year.  On Chinese New Year’s eve, prayers will be held and candles will be lit to ask for good health, good luck and prosperity.

They will have an open house to celebrate Chinese New Year at 7.00 p.m. on Saturday, 23rd February with a buffet dinner.
